found this picture linked to on slashdot, with the caption 'Run Linus Run, no really RUN!' doesn't it just sum up everything that is un-fashionable about computers? And what is the guy in the back doing?

weird. making tea just now i noticed that the coke vending machine in the kitchen is made by a company called dixie-narco. it occured to me that primal scream released an EP with the same name. either it's odd that they chose to call an EP after a soft drinks vending machine company, or the vending company are named after the EP. me thinks the former. maybe some drugs reference? vending coke....
is programming art? i think so. Justin Erenkrantz also thinks so. thanks to Ben for the link.
i came face to face with the Wombles at the National Museum of Photography Film and Television over the weekend. amazing experience. it all happened during a behind the scenes tour after seeing the Cyber 3D show at the Imax. whilst looking round one of the rooms Toby noticed a pile of plastic tuppaware boxes on one of the cabinets with 'Wombles' printed on the side. he asked the curator if we could have a look, and low and behold there they all were, Uncle Bulgaria, Madame Sholet and all the others, all along with their props. even if you don't get a chance to see them, the rest of the Museum is well worth a visit.
eBoy - i love this stuff
Reduce the amount of rubbish that comes through your postbox thusly :
- Register with the Mailing Preference Service. This little known organisation controls most of the direct marketing mail you get through your door. Of course in an ideal world you would have to register to GET the stuff, but hey, that's capitalism for you.
- Let your bank/building society/utility/etc know that you're not interested. All it needs is a quick phone call and you'll then only get the important stuff.

Sound mirrors or 'listening ears' are large concrete constructions built during the second world war as an early warning system for enemy aircraft. Sound would be collected in the concave dishes and listened to by trained personnel. The system was never actually used, having been superceded by radar technology.
Danish artist Lise Autogena is building two of these sound mirrors, one each side of the channel between England and France. By standing on a platform infront of the sound mirror you will be able to hear and communicate with your counterpart on the other side of the channel.
What an amazing idea. More info on the original constructions can be found here.

Both examples of good, non-commercial, non-clutter sites where the default looks like one of those mobile phone ringtone ads in the back of a glossy magazine.
